Best Broiler Pans

Not only are these broiler pans higher quality than most of the pans out there, they come with a handy rack which supports the food so multiple items can be cooked. This is great for 2 reasons. First all the items of food get cooked with even heat distribution.

Second, it prevents any food from slipping between the rack and the pan, saving you clean up time & aggravation. The only drawback to this style of pan is the handle. Given the design of the pan, there can be a heat issue with the handle and it can become super hot. I’ve never had an issue with it but the annoyance of having to use two potholders or grab a towel to grab the handle, thus possibly hindering the cooking of the food, is a concern.

Pros:

  • Easy to clean
  • Durable
  • Completely blacked out to minimize heat loss

Cons:

  • May be too large for some people
  • Not stackable
  • Heavy

Whirlpool has a great option for those looking to make the transition from the standard broiler pan to the more effective porcelain broiler pan and grid set.

If you’re cooking with an ordinary broiler pan and using a gas stovetop, it’s going to be extremely easy to get heat and burning on your pan in addition to uneven cooking and flare ups. Put all those unpleasantries behind you for good by switching to a Whirlpool broiler pan. You’ll be able to cook evenly with less flare ups. The porcelain material is stain and residue resistant and easier to clean than the non-stick surfaces found on many of the other broiler pans. The grid keeps food above the broiler pan so it’s easy to remove.

Pros:

  • Great value
  • Perfect for cooking chicken or fish
  • Convenient size

Cons:

  • Not as sturdy as you might like
  • Handles can be a bit squishy

If you’ve followed my blog for the past year, you’d know that I swear by foil broiler pans for cooking a wide variety of meats, especially when I’m trying out a new recipe that I’m a bit unsure of. The disposable nature of the pan means that there’s no cleaning up involved, and when you’re done, you can simply toss them aside. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find any aluminum broiler pans that are dishwasher safe… yet. If you want to learn more about why I’m such a big fan of the disposable aluminum foil pans, check out this article.

These aluminum broiler pans are pretty much an exact replica of my old, trusty set of Pan Lid disposable aluminum foil broiler pans. Made from heavy duty extrusions, they’re perfect for cooking anything crispy that needs to be cooked fast. The bottom of the broiler pan has a nice, ribbed texture that helps prevent the food from sticking.

7. Norpro Stainless Steel Broil/Roast Pan Set

Our rating: 8 / 10

Norpro Stainless Steel Broil/Roast Pan Set

Pros:

  • Great for different coil types: gas, electric and induction
  • Suitable for a variety of foods
  • Not too heavy

Cons:

  • Poor quality
  • No lid to avoid messing up the kitchen

The Norpro Stainless Steel Broil/Roast Pan Set is a 17-inch set of pans that perfectly accommodate nearly all cooktops.

A broil/roast pan is an ideal way to cook a large amount of food. This allows you to multitask while a roast or ham cooks in the oven or even the slower braised meats that sit in a roasting pan on the stovetop.

Usually, these pans have handles, but these have a silicone ring instead, which is easier on the hands. The silicone ring, however, should be hand washed because it will slip out of your hands if you try to put it in the dishwasher.

Pros:

  • Dishwasher safe
  • Easy to clean up
  • Non-stick surface

Cons:

  • Can get scratched over time
  • Tends to stick to food

There are a lot of different options out there for broiler pans, but this is a really good one which gets the job done without being overly expensive.

This broiler pan is made out of porcelain which means that it is going to be much more durable and longer lasting than other types of pans.

The broiler pan has a width of 12-1/4 inches and a length of 8-1/2 inches, which is more than large enough for you to make yummy meals for your friends, family, and guests. It is also deep enough so that you won’t have to worry about the juices from other foods running all over the top of the broiler pan.

The rack itself has sturdy handles made from metal. You can move it around the pan without any worry of your food falling off it. The construction of the broiler pan is solid and you won’t need to worry about rust getting on your food.

Pros:

  • Affordable
  • Works for toasting a variety of things
  • Evenly distributes heat
  • Sturdy
  • Easy to clean
  • Non-stick
  • Handles make it easier to get in and out
  • Compact
  • Oven safe to 400F

Cons:

  • Could take longer to cook than in a conventional oven
  • After several months of use, the pan and rack may need separation to slide well
  • The rack can be hard to clean, depending on what it is being used for

This broiler pan is perfect for broiling anything from a toaster oven. It has a nice, thick non-stick coating that works great with the heat from a toaster oven. The rack can be used to slide something off the pan, making it easier to get the food out of the oven.

The rack has a coating so it can withstand the high temperatures of the rack. When the pans get older, the rack may not slide as easily. It’s likely that the rack and pan will need to be separated to slide out of the oven, however the rack should still work even if it’s separated from the pan.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the best broiler pan?

The quality of a broiler pan is specific to each situation. Consideration needs to be paid to how much food you need to cook at once. Usually a smaller pan, such as a 9×13-inch pan, will be sufficient. However, you may also want to consider the size of your oven. The minimum size of a broiler is usually the size of the pan you’ll be using: 18 inches. If you have a traditional oven, you want a minimum of two inches of clearance between the top of the food and the broiler. You should also consider what material you want the pan to be made out of, along with the price and brand.

What pans are safe for the broiler?

Consider the manufacturer's recommendations. Some pans are not broiler safe. If you're not sure about yours, throw it out.

The broiler is like a blast furnace compared to the oven. One of the primary reasons that the broiler was invented was so that [email protected] could be cooked over an intense heat source. Pans that are not designed for broiler use have a higher risk of melting when exposed to the intense heat of a broiler.

Where can I buy a broiling pan?

With a high price tag and a limited list of retailers, broiling pans are some of the most difficult items to find in retail stores.

Most people will have to special order it online, and you can check out the list of our top retailer recommendations on the [retailers] page of this book.

What does a broiling pan look like?

A typical broiling pan comes in a rectangular shape, with rims on the top and bottom to ensure that whatever you are broiling does not fall through, and it has a handle. A great one will have silicone grips to make it easy to lift out.

Conclusion

The broiler is a high-temperature method of cooking that uses a low electric current to generate intense heat, and it can be used for both beef and poultry. Compared with grilling, which cooks food over an open flame, broiling gives better-looking results, charring the surface of meat while preserving the inside which is fully cooked. Broiling is great for larger cuts like ribs and prime rib roasts, too, because it cooks them all the way through without drying them out.
