If you are anything like me, you have way too many tools all over your garage, basement or shop. Each loose in its own black hole. You’d think I was a hoarder? Well, actually I am, but this is way different than hoarding.

Being a hoarder I usually have all sorts of stuff, both useful and useless that I just can’t part with. If I owned this amazing garage organizer. I wouldn’t have a garage anymore. They’d just be piles of tools everywhere.

But I digress. I actually have a really neat tool organizer, a modular system that I really like, one of my better purchases.

They’re custom made to fit your tools, and it exceeds the lifetime guarantee.

It is pretty pricey but if you are anything like me a garage full of useless stuff is better than searching for a tool you really need.

It is made with industrial strength Tubular Steel, Attractive Food Safe Varnish and Industrial Grade Finish.

  • Inexpensive, great value for money

I wanted an organizing unit for all my tools. I wanted it to be simple, easy to assemble, easy to clean and of good quality. I wanted it to be inexpensive but also last me a long time.

This item does all of that and I’m quite impressed. I was not expecting this tool organizer to be made of metal/stainless steel and it really feels way more durable and solid than I thought it would be.

What I mean by easy to assemble is, no tools are needed and the whole thing snaps together by sliding the tools into the different slots then moving the locks into place to lock the bottom layer into the top layer.

Pros:

  • 15-inch capacity
  • Padded interior
  • Collapsible
  • Great for all kinds of tools and equipment
  • Features a reinforced bottom
  • Comes with a convenient carry handle
  • Zippered main compartment
  • Mesh front pocket

Cons:

  • Straps aren’t reinforced
  • Slight learning curve required to fold and unfold the organizer

The McGuire-Nicholas 22015 is a fantastic gift for those of us who love to work on home projects or fix (or repair) things around the house.

I’m personally someone who never goes anywhere without putting my tools in a big plastic bag. It’s really good at keeping tools together because you can just shove it in your overstuffed messenger bag.

But as I’m sure we can all agree, the plastic bag isn’t that organized and certainly isn’t padded. It can also be a little awkward to carry because it typically just flops around in your bag.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the best tool storage system?

What is the best tool storage system? Find one that works for you. What will fit in your tool box or drawer? Even if it is a tool that needs the most space, you need to make sure it will still fit in your go-to spot.

What's the best way to organize a tool box?

Before you begin to keep your tool box organized, first consider whether you have all the tools that you need for the upcoming projects. Make sure that you do not purchase any more tools that you think you may need until you actually think about what you are going to use them for.

If you have times when you do not use your tools, consider storing them in a box or bag, and using the tool box for another purpose.

It is also important to organize your tools according to their type and use. For example, all the tools that you use for woodworking should be stored together. A few of the best ways to organize a toolbox include setting up a drawer, dividing the tools into separate parts, organizing them by size and creating categories for different tools.

How do you organize wrenches in a toolbox?

Wrenches are one of the most difficult tools to organize. If you use wrenches on a regular basis, you probably have a few loose wrenches lying around.

I like to make use of a paint tray that I picked up at the dollar store and keep all the wrenches I will use that day in it and throw it on the job site table or in the truck. This keeps your work area organized but gets the wrenches out of the way so you don’t have to pick them up to walk around.

If you have a lot of wrenches to wrangle, you can buy a wrench container on the cheap on sites like eBay. Here is an example of a good wrench container:

How can I organize my tools without a toolbox?

While there are many different storage options for keeping your tools, most of them are limited to keeping them contained. In order to have the most efficient and optimal storage, you should consider organizing your tools into specific areas for various tasks.

Investing in one good tool cabinet will give you more space and allow you to hang or stand valuable tools out of the way.

Conclusion

A good tool organizer can make life a lot easier in a workshop – whether it’s just for now until you have more space, or if you’re starting to get a few tools and want to start organize them to maximize your workspace. We should note that some models are great at organizing but won’t necessarily stop your tools from being stolen. With that in mind, they still help to deter theft and you may still find them helpful. Hopefully after reading our picks you’ll find the best model for your needs.
