There are simply only a few things in life which bring greater peace of mind than knowing that your home is safe and secure, even when you’re not there. That’s where security cameras come in.

You can now go on vacation, for example, and feel much better about leaving home if you have a security camera installed.

Depending on the needs of your family, you probably want something that records, keeps and sends you an archive of video footage of what happens at your home, when you’re not there. In this case, you’ve come to the right place!

It’s a jungle out there in the world of home security and IP cameras get a lot of attention.

But let’s face it: it’s all over the place. It’s hard to know which cameras are worth the price or which ones will perform the way you want them to.

For this reason, I’ve done all of the legwork for you!

Below you’ll find a list of the best wireless IP Security cameras. My personal favorites and the ones I recommend to friends and family.

The ARLO Pro 2 cam has a bunch of features I like. It’s easy to install, works great in the dark, has a rechargeable base, has geofencing and allows you to set up customized modes. For example, if motion is detected in your kitchen at 10 PM, it can alert you to this fact, send you a short clip of what set it off and then turn on a light in the kitchen.

If you want to act on this motion alert, you can quickly go into this alert on your smartphone and either watch the clip of what set it off or turn on the camera for a longer period to make sure everything is OK. You can password protect your Arlo Pro if you need to.

9. Amazon Cloud Cam Security Camera

Our rating: 6 / 10

Amazon Cloud Cam Security Camera

Check Price on Amazon

Pros:

  • Perfect for watching your home/office when you’re not there
  • Easy to set up
  • Works with Alexa

Cloud Cam is a security camera that helps you keep tabs on you’re your home or business, whether you’re there or a thousand miles away.

Cloud Cam is easy to set up and resembles the shape of a small hockey puck. The camera is wireless and records 1080p 30FPS HD video with night vision and 2-way audio. Once you set things up through the Amazon app you can see what’s going on on your phone if you’re out and about or you can ask Alexa to view the live feed through a second gen Echo device.

Alexa’s video feed is capped at 720p, but it still looks very good for a security camera. As Alexa needs an Echo, Echo Dot or Fire TV to deliver it’s video feed, this makes the Cloud Cam one of the more expensive security choices because you’re also buying Alexa at the same time (although you’re arguably getting a better deal than paying for a Nest Cam or the Ring video doorbell).

  • The zoom level is very low(300%)

Since Y-Cam, a company from the UK is best selling wireless IP security cameras, I don't bother to look for a better model.

I have tried several models of Y-Cam, and except the most basic model, they are more stable and have better functions than Vimtag.

Vimtag VT-362 offers exactly the same performance as Y-cam minimum, but much cheaper. The only difference is the app is not as slick and nice as Y-Cam.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the best wireless outdoor security camera?

Once you make the decision to purchase and install one of these security cameras, the next big decision will be: which one? The choices will be overwhelming and all are pretty comparable. What to do?

How to choose between the options?

In order of importance, 1) cost-effectiveness, 2) good quality video quality, 3) reliability, 4) good customer service, and 5) ease of use.

— But wait! Those are the most important considerations when it comes to ALL security cameras. After all, if you don't have any footage of a thief or burglar, how can you press charges or even have something to show the police?

What is the best wireless security cameras?

A truly wireless security camera without a dedicated DVR is as of yet to come. Sorry. If you are planning on saving footage by any means, wired is probably your safest bet. But most home users these days, if you want to monitor your home through a mobile device, wireless is your only choice.

What is the best IP camera app?

The best IP camera app they could find was ¿Xeoma¿.

Xeoma is the leading open source video surveillance software and will satisfy the needs of both professional and home users. What’s more, the software is used all over the world by businesses and organizations.

Xeoma has a lot of handy features, including the ability to detect motion, record and live-stream video, and schedule recordings. Xeoma can also use alerts and notifications, alert administrators about problems on cameras and set up scheduled reports.

Xeoma can integrate with the Internet of Things, which allows users to work more efficiently by connecting their cameras with other devices including ones they may already be using.

The app is free but does offer a few paid upgrades for professional users.

Which is the best IP camera?

I got a few Wansview IP cameras and then put them through their paces to see how they work.

I tested two of the top selling (and most popular) wireless IP cameras from Wansview and when all was said and done, they weren’t the best IP camera for me.
