As soon as fronts comes through it’s time to switch to a more appropriate set of winter clothes.

If you’re a snowboarder that won’t stand being cold and that doesn’t want to spend a fortune on a jacket, the the Burton Beatrix jacket is probably your best option. It’s a very warm and thick jacket that will keep most cold out.

I’ll say right now that the Burton Women's Trench is probably the best women's snowboarding jacket for extreme cold. Because on top of being super warm, it’s also waterproof (no one wants to get wet in the middle of a cold winter).

It’s also pretty damn chic, which means you’ll look good on the hill and you won’t look like a total loser. It’s fairly warm too and considering the design, features and price, it’s really the one jacket you should be looking at.

There are many good snowboard jackets for women on the market, but when it comes to maximum warmth and protection from the elements, the Burton Trench is the best choice.

  • Stable enough to wear at full winter blast
  • Not Bulky Enough to Feel like a Sack of Rocks

Cons:

  • Could be replaced with something lighter

The Royal Robbins Women’s Mountain Silo is a great lightweight merino wool jacket that’s breathable, flame retardant, and moisture wicking. I highly recommend this as a first purchase for anyone who’s in the market for a great winter jacket.

I’ve owned this jacket for several years now, and it’s become a favorite. It looks a bit different than your standard NorthFace jacket, and it has a stiffened fleece on the outside that reminds me of the kind of jacket I would wear to play in the snow as a kid. It also has a slightly longer thigh than you might expect, which I like.

Pros:

  • Three pockets for increased storage
  • Mesh liner
  • Soft material

Cons:

  • Zippers tend to get stuck
  • Sizes run small

This is the best women’s jacket I’ve ever owned! It’s true to style and is very versatile. It’s perfect for any weather- I’ve worn it in the snow and in the rain and it’s been a reliable and comfortable piece of clothing for both occasions! I would highly recommend this jacket for anyone who lives in or travels to colder climates frequently and wants a stylish but practical jacket that can keep up with various weather conditions no matter what!

This jacket looks cute and feels even better, if that’s possible. I’m not used to clothing that’s this light yet warm; never was it so comfortable! My only (very minor) complaint is about the zipper, which can be hard to pull if you’re not careful; you have to be relaxed! Don’t rush or try to force anything. Other than that, great product! Highly recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the best snowboard jacket brand?

Rome SDS, Head, Burton, and Monane Graphix.

What kind of jacket should I wear for snowboarding?

A lot of people just wear whatever jacket they can get their hands on before heading out to the slopes. This is okay and you can certainly definitely get by with an old windbreaker. Don’t go out and buy a brand new jacket just for a couple of trips, but do make sure it has some features that will help protect you from the cold, including a removable hood.

It’s also a good idea to look for a jacket that will help you keep dry. This means that you should go for an insulated jacket or at least one with a waterproof exterior.

You may also want to give consideration to something that is more insulated in the shoulders as these tend to be the first regions that feel cold when snowfall commences. Some jackets offer just a little more coverage here.

What should you wear when snowboarding?

When it comes to what you wear snowboarding, the most important thing is that your coat fits you and allows for you to move freely. You should also make sure that you have a number of extra layers you can take off or put under your coat depending on the level of activity you will be engaging in.

Overall, you will want wear what you feel most comfortable and natural in, whether it’s a puffy jacket or shell and t-shirt. As you progress as a snowboarder, you are likely to branch out into a few different looks, but for now, just make sure you are dressed for whatever you plan on doing and are prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions.

Can you wear a down jacket snowboarding?

Yes it can be worn. But it will probably get wet and slowly freeze. Down will be warm when first wet/damp, but once it freezes, it will be ineffective. Down will last a little longer than synthetic if it gets soaked, but if you are trudging through deep powder or something similar, it is likely to get wet anyways and freeze. It will not keep you warm if it freezes. If you are waist deep in powder and it is freezing, you may still be warm if you are moving around and have dry top layers.

Conclusion

A good snowboarding jacket is the difference between a good day on the slopes and a very cold day as a human icicle. Jackets keep the body's warmth, especially the core temperature, regulated and under control. The best snowboarding jackets do this with the help of material and features that work in harmony with each other. Cooling, quick drying, and brush protection keep riders comfortable, but the tricks for keeping as warm as possible are to use the right fitting jacket and to wear clothing beneath it that fits and wicks well also.
